In this module you will study a wide range of aspects of developmental neuroscience, from neurogenesis through to wiring and maturation of nervous tissue, with a focus on vertebrate development.

  • Neurodevelopmental processes and neuroanatomy in different animal species
  • Gene signalling cascades that regulate specification and differentiation of nervous tissue
  • Cell signalling pathways that pattern the vertebrate nervous system
  • Mechanisms underpinning synapse formation, stabilisation and pruning
  • Growth and guidance of axons
  • Activity-dependent regulation of CNS maturation
  • How perturbations of CNS development contribute to neurological disease
