This module will introduce you to the key issues surrounding substance users and mental health and teach you how to to identify substance use and comorbid mental health problems - dual diagnosis. We will consider the complex needs of some substance users and the approaches and interventions available.
You will learn how to identify biopsychocial factors, which may contribute to a deterioration in mental health, and how to use risk assessment tools to make an initial assessment of the clients risk to themselves and others. We will also discuss presenting issues linked to mental health including when, where and how to refer on to other professionals.
