Introduction to Ecology and Wildlife Conservation

In this module you will learn how to describe living organisms in relation to the ecosystems they inhabit. You will learn how ecosystems influence the flow of energy and cycling of matter at a range of scales. You will also study how abiotic factors influence the character of ecosystems - and the impacts that human activities have on ecosystems.


This module is studied through distance learning. Methods include:

  • Guided online and printed resources
  • On-line discussion/tutorial
  • Guided independent field exercises
  • E-tivities


  • Online study skills worksheet (this is compulsory but the mark does not contribute to your final total for the module)
  • Two study support exercises, 750 words each (50%)
  • Essay, 2,000 words (50%)
