Living With Risk

Module code: SY3082

Societies are increasingly becoming aware of the risks that could affect its citizens, government and organisations, and have measures in place to ensure these risks are minimised. You’ll be investigating how late-modern societies perceive and deal with risks, and evaluate research that enables us to assess the theoretical insights of the 'risk society', and whether or not it stands up to empirical scrutiny.

Throughout the module you’ll develop an understanding of risk and how it relates to the 'socio-political', while discussing citizens' attitudes to risk. You’ll be questioning the idea that late-modern societies are increasingly 'managing' risk of crime rather than solving it, and look at the regulations and methods of prevention that are currently in place.
