Human Rights in the 21st Century

Module code: LW3270

You'll cover matters relating to the Human Rights Act, prisoners’ rights, hate speech, obscenity, pornography, contempt of court and public order powers which are often in the news. This module examines the law behind the headlines.

During this module you'll evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the UK’s constitutional and legal orders protecting civil liberties and human rights, and develop your opinion on the case for reform. You'll be looking at how the rights and freedoms of people in the UK are shaped and influenced by the UK’s membership of the European Convention on Human Rights, and the extent to which such laws are enforced. By conducting your own research you will develop the ability to convey structured arguments on human right laws.
