Approaches to Textual Analysis

This module focuses on the film text and the different approaches that can be used to analyse individual films and groups of films. We will analyse the complex formal and ideological processes at work in the creation of meaning and affect and will consider different ways of understanding those processes and the films in which they are at work. The module is assessed by a sequence analysis, for which you examine a short film sequence in close detail, developing your observational and analytical skills, and your ability to use critical frameworks in understanding how films work.
