Research Methods and Writing Skills

Module code: EN7001

This module provides you with experience in the research and writing skills that you'll need for success in MA written assessments. It includes skills for planning the dissertation, which you'll work on in the later stages of your course.

Seminars will introduce you to electronic and other sources of information and to the types of search strategies appropriate to postgraduate work. You'll also focus on developing your skills in critical writing and referencing. Seminars will include tutor-led instructional elements, with a strong focus on your participation in tasks and discussion with other students.

You'll work towards delivering a research-based presentation on locating sources in your chosen field. This forms part of the assessment and is accompanied a bibliography of your investigation. Following this, the second part of the assessment is a critical review of academic work relevant to your research interests.
