Experimental Design and Application of Molecular Genetic Techniques to Research

Module code: BS4212

This module will cover the experimental technologies and current topics in molecular genetics. You will have the chance to perform more sophisticated experiments and also think more critically about how experiments are designed and investigations planned. For example, you will use real-time PCR for quantitative assessment of RNA expression and examine epigenetic modification of gene promoters by using bisulphite sequencing to determine patterns of DNA methylation. You will independently investigate a current topic in molecular genetics by reading and analysing research publications, and apply your understanding to write an essay explaining the research topic.
