Gender Politics in Contemporary Media

Module code: MS7214

This module will use a range of media, such as film, television and social platforms, to analyse the key areas of concern regarding gender politics in the media. You'll start by defining and exploring the different genealogies of feminist theory relevant to the analysis of contemporary media.

The commercialisation of feminism, the politics of emotion, the sexualisation of public culture and issues relating to intersectionality are just some of the topics we will touch on. All this will help you to understand our culture's narrative on gender, and through deconstruction you can analyse and critique these influences.
