Sociology of Fashion

Module code: SY2083

Whilst we tend to think of fashion in terms of either Haute Couture or High Street clothing, there are so many sociological indicators and symbols woven into what we wear. You’ll be investigating a range of topics including lifestyle, transport, holidays and technology to name but a few.

Different dimensions will be explored to get a better grasp of how gender, sexuality, children's fashion, fashion production and celebrity all affect what we wear. You’ll of course cultivate your own understanding of this subject by looking at classical and contemporary theories of fashion, and look to the future to see the role of fashion in various societies.
