Computational Partial Differential Equations with Finite Elements

Module code: MA3013

This module is centred on the applications of mathematical principles to answer classical physical questions, with a focus on the analysis of partial differential equations. You will apply standard analytical solution techniques to linear first and second order problems and gain a deeper understanding of the basic concepts and methods from the numerical analysis of partial differential equations, such as:

  • Consistency 
  • Stability 
  • Convergence  

You will gain an appreciation for relevance of linear function analysis to PDE theory, and use your computing skills by using MATLAB to reproduce and analyse finite element formulations for linear PDE model.
