This module examines policing and the police. Policing is an integral component of the Criminal Justice process and the police perform a number of important functions, such as, proactive patrol, responding to calls from the public, the investigation of offences, and the preparation of cases for prosecution. As a public body with coercive powers, how the police operate raises fundamental issues concerning the rule of law, human rights and civil liberties. In this module, you'll critically examine the role and function of policing, alongside the legitimacy of police actions.
