Earth Observation Science

The Earth Observation Science (EOS) group uses data from sophisticated instruments in space to tackle today’s greatest environmental challenges, such as climate change and air pollution. Our research is underpinned by state-of-the-art models, ground and aircraft observations and lab experiments and we frequently collaborate with research institutions and leading space agencies across all continents.

The group is an international hub for earth observation research and innovation and hosts the headquarters of the NERC National Centre for Earth Observation (NCEO). Many of the group are NCEO staff.

Our key areas of research include Satellite Observations of Climate and Weather, Remote Sensing of the Changing Land Surface, Atmospheric Composition and Air Quality and Remote Sensing Technology, EO Missions and Laboratory-based Spectroscopy.
