Why Leicester?

Criminology at Leicester is home to some of the UK’s leading criminologists, whose expertise covers topics from community policing and offending behaviour to hate crime, sentencing, prisons and probation.

Leicester is one of very few universities in the country to have its own area exclusively dedicated to researching and teaching criminology.

Teaching and Assessment

You will be able to study by distance learning through our module study books (available electronically) and Blackboard, our virtual learning environment. This will give you online access to materials to support each module, discussions forums hosted by module tutors and chat rooms where you can network with fellow students. You will also benefit from a number of supported learning events – ranging from a pre course Induction Programme to Online Academic Skills Programmes and Study Schools.

Online learning is an important feature of this course, therefore it is essential that you have reliable, regular access to the internet (preferably with a broadband connection) in order to participate.

We are aware of the specific challenges and benefits of studying at a distance and tailor our support to meet these needs. Support is always available from dedicated academic and support staff and you will be assigned a personal tutor who will be available to discuss any aspects of your study either by phone or email.

Throughout your course you will have access to Blackboard, and to the University’s online library facilities which includes a large number of e-journals and e-books. You are also welcome to join campus-based activities (by prior arrangement) at any time. Your learning materials are sent to you through a combination of electronic materials available online and hard copy materials sent through the post.

Assessment

The BA in Security and Risk Management incorporates a range of assessment methods including written essays, reports, career development portfolios, critical writing assignments and a dissertation research project.

Entry Requirements

This degree is only available to students who have successfully completed our Foundation Degree in Security and Risk Management, or an equivalent Foundation Degree of 240 credits at Level 5 at another institution.

English Language Requirements

IELTS 6.5 or equivalent. If your first language is not English, you may need to provide evidence of your English language ability.
