The MRes in Engineering allows you to concentrate on an area of Engineering which you have previously explored at undergraduate level, through an in-depth research project. This course can be taken on its own or as a preparation for a PhD. The MRes is a free-standing qualification

Semester 2

Semester 2

During your first semester, you will select your research project from a list which will be circulated. This project, which will include regular meetings with your supervisor, will take up the second semester and the summer, from February through to the end of September.

Your project will start with a formal proposal and literature review and will include an interim report and presentation partway through. You will receive feedback on a draft version of your dissertation before submitted the completed project as both written dissertation and oral presentation (viva).

Teaching and Assessment

Teaching methods include lectures and seminars supported by practical and lab work. Assessment is a mix of open and closed exams and continuous assessment. Your dissertation will be assessed separately.

Entry Requirements

Good second class honours degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject. You will be asked to write a brief statement of research interests, clearly indicating which of the Department's research groups relates to your proposed area of study.

English Language Requirements

IELTS 6.0 or equivalent. If your first language is not English, you may need to provide evidence of your English language ability. If you do not yet meet our requirements, our English Language Teaching Unit (ELTU) offers a range of courses to help you to improve your English to the necessary standard.
