Course Description

Business partnering is a growth area for employment across many medium and large organisations. Because of a skill shortage, employers are looking for individuals who are trained to succeed in this area with suitable skills and expertise.

You will be provided with the subject knowledge to enable you to appreciate the variety and breadth of the role. Through practical exercises which are designed around your experience and context, you will develop the skills and competences required to operate effectively for business partnering.

This course is a collaboration between practitioners and academics. The course has been designed by experts who have identified, developed, trained and managed business partners on an international basis.

Course content

This course is designed for self-directed study and aims to consider the importance of business partnering and how to improve the efficiency, effectiveness and outcomes of a typical business partner in relation to their stakeholders.  The course provides an end-to-end model for business partnering and the viewpoint of a structured six-stage model for business partnering. This includes the stages of:

  1. Preparation
  2. Engagement
  3. Acceptance
  4. Delivery
  5. Change
  6. Outcome

Models, methods, tools and techniques are provided that will increase the efficient orientation of a new business partner and also to support existing business partners in improving their effective engagement with their stakeholders.


Modules shown represent choices available to current students. The range of modules available and the content of any individual module may change in future years.

Teaching and Assessment

The course is delivered online and features videos, case studies, key readings, knowledge tests and reflective exercises. You will be assessed through a series of online tests and a reflective practice based portfolio.

Entry Requirements

  • A UK honours degree or its overseas equivalent OR an acceptable professional qualification
  • Three years of relevant managerial or supervisory work experience

English Language Requirements

IELTS 6.5 or equivalent. If your first language is not English, you may need to provide evidence of your English language ability.
