This is for you if... you want to study general engineering at an advanced level and also gain some insight into management.

Course Description

The technical focus of this degree is on technical breadth and flexibility of choice. You will study subjects from a broad range of engineering disciplines in combination with a rigorous introduction to those management theories, models, frameworks and techniques that are likely to be important to a professional engineer.

The Department of Engineering offers modules in mechanical, electrical, electronic, software, and communications engineering, meaning that you can study new areas of interest while deepening your knowledge of others. Since industry increasingly uses multidisciplinary teams, an understanding of a variety of engineering subjects may form a key part of career development.

The combination of advanced technical engineering skills and knowledge of management theory and practice will give you the knowledge and skills required to secure leadership roles in global engineering industries.

Industry placement (optional)

Industry placement (optional)

You may, if you wish, choose to study for an MSc in Advanced Engineering with Management and Industry, which includes the opportunity to apply for a range of industry placements arranged by the Department. Your placement, of between three and nine months, will be undertaken after the taught part of the course, allowing you to acquire industrial experience and develop an appreciation of how the new skills you have acquired relate to problems in industry.

The 'With Industry' option is not available if you study part-time.

Teaching and Assessment

Teaching methods include lectures and seminars supported by practical and lab work. Assessment is a mix of open and closed exams and continuous assessment. Your dissertation will be assessed separately.

Entry Requirements

Good second class honours degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject.

English Language Requirements

IELTS 6.5 or equivalent. If your first language is not English, you may need to provide evidence of your English language ability. If you do not yet meet our requirements, our English Language Teaching Unit (ELTU) offers a range of courses to help you to improve your English to the necessary standard.
