We know isolation is not exactly fun, but your actions are helping to restrict the spread of COVID-19 within the University and the wider community. COVID-19 is still a dangerous, potentially deadly condition, especially for vulnerable people. By following the rules, you are helping to protect lives.
Have we got your details?
Make sure your records are up to date in MyStudentRecords. If you need to contact us for assistance, it is vital that we have accurate contact details for you.
Make sure you have the SafeZone app on your phone and obviously, keep your phone on and charged!
Why you’re isolatingOne or more of you has symptoms, or has tested positive, or has been in close contact with someone who already has COVID-19. Unfortunately this means that the whole ‘household’ or ‘bubble’ – students sharing kitchen or bathroom facilities – must self-isolate together.
This is not a University of Leicester rule. Isolation is a legal requirement in the UK and you can be fined if you do not follow the Government’s rules.
The rulesIt’s simple, really. You must not leave your flat. No-one can go out, and other people can’t come in, including people in other flats in your block (even if they are also self-isolating). You cannot go outside for any reason whatever until your isolation period is complete.
Remember, if you are asked to self-isolate due to close contact (such as being in the same household) as someone who is symptomatic or has tested positive, it is now a legal requirement and the government may fine you if you do not observe this.
Isolation guidance states ‘Do not go out even to buy food or other essentials, and any exercise must be taken within your home. This 14-day period starts from the day when the first person in your house became ill or if they do not have symptoms, from the day their test was taken.’
Make sure you read the gov.uk webpage about self-isolation.
Carry on studying
Isolation does not mean that you have to miss any part of your degree. All of your lectures, seminars and tutorials are accessible online through ignite our new approach to studying that allows you to move seamlessly between on-campus and digital learning.
If you have not used ignite before and you need help in getting started with studying online call 0116 252 2300 and we’ll talk you through it.
Food and drink
Dinner is on us! We will not let you go hungry. Our LeicsEat boxes provide ingredients and recipes to prepare great meals with enough servings for your whole flat. We will also include a few treats plus a necessity box with essentials such as toilet rolls, bin bags and sanitary goods.
If you have any specific dietary requirements, make sure you tell us on day one of isolation by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. We will do our best to meet your requirements.
We will be making meat boxes available for purchase on Shop@le – we’ll let you know when they’re available to buy.
We would love to see your culinary creations – use #LeicsEat to share your pics.
If you order grocery or food deliveries online, do it as a flat/household. We have worked with Asda at Oadby for deliveries to the Village and Morrison’s at Freemen’s Common for City deliveries. If you order as a household there is more chance of you getting a delivery.
All the deliveries are kerb side, so you will need to ensure the driver is aware that you are isolating to see if they can bring it to your door.
- If you are intending to order a supermarket grocery delivery or takeaway delivery, you should do the following:
- Ask someone else in your block or any other friends who are not isolating to collect the delivery from the kerb side and put it outside your flat door. They should not come into your flat or have any physical contact with you or your household.
- If there is no one else who can help with this, contact the accommodation reception to see if they are able to help.
- For takeaways – if the takeaway cannot be delivered to your flat door or there is no one who can collect a takeaway food order from the kerbside for you, you should avoid ordering it.
Remember, if you are asked to self-isolate, it is now a legal requirement, and the government may fine you if you do not observe this.
Please make us aware if you have a medical condition and require specific medicines or specific food items, please contact us directly email@example.com
If you are isolating and feel like you need medical attention call 111 in the first instance.
Keep it clean
Be sure to wipe down common spaces in your flat frequently using the cleaning products we have provided for you. This will reduce the risk of someone else in the flat catching COVID.
You won’t have to wear the same sweaty socks for the next fortnight! To support you during self-isolation we are providing a weekly laundry service.
We’ll drop off bags and labels. Leave your washing ‘double bagged’ and labelled outside your flat door. We will collect and return it washed. Sorted!
(Available in University managed accommodation only)
Smoking and vaping
You are not permitted to smoke or vape in your accommodation. If you can avoid the need to smoke or vape, you should.
If you need support you can self-refer to the stop smoking service within LiveWell (integrated lifestyle service) to get support with quitting and access to NRT – 0116 454 4000 or livewell.leicester.gov.uk
You should be aware that vaping or smoking in your room is likely to set off the fire alarm, any malicious fire alarm activations are a criminal offence and could lead to further action.
Post and deliveries
We don’t want you to miss out on your post or deliveries. For residents of The Village, Nixon Court and Opal Court please do not visit the reception while you are isolating. Post will be delivered daily using contactless delivery to your flat/house door. You will receive an email when your delivery has been processed by reception for delivery – so keep an eye on your inbox.
Activities and events
We’ve created a programme of online activities and events so you can keep yourself busy and active, both mentally and physically.
Your Accommodation team will be running live Instagram events. Enjoy quizzes, craft sessions and recommendations for the all essential Netflix watch list.
