Importance of Arts for Wellbeing

Attenborough Arts Centre is the University of Leicester's accessible and inclusive creative arts and learning hub. The arts benefit us all individually and collectively, expanding the way we think, feel and interact.

During the pandemic, access to Attenborough Arts’ dedicated student wellbeing activities has been especially valuable, supporting those who were feeling more isolated and vulnerable than ever before.

The Attenborough Arts team was able to produce and donate over 3000 specifically designed Attenborough Arts at Home (AAaH) kits to University of Leicester students facing isolation during lockdown in 2020.

These creative kits gave students the opportunity to engage with the arts, improve their mental wellbeing, and build a community through creativity.

“Having just settled into university, it was difficult to suddenly be in isolation through a lockdown. The AAaH kit really helped me to feel a part of something bigger than myself, to know that there was a community I could connect to through the arts and through the kindness of the donated kit”. Museum Studies student.

With your help, we can continue to support those who are struggling with their mental health through the arts. For example, £30 could provide 10 art kits to improve students’ wellbeing and connection within a creative community.
