How did we get here?
Our journey to the University's new Strategic Plan
After the appointment of Professor Paul Boyle as President and Vice-Chancellor, it was decided that the University’s existing Strategic Vision to 2015 would need to be reviewed. Indeed, part of the requirement for a new Vice-Chancellor was to “drive and develop a new vision and strategy for the next ten years”.
The Strategic Conversation
Professor Boyle launched the ‘Strategic Conversation’ on 22 January 2015. This conversation sought to engage with every staff member and student at the University, together with local community partners and other relevant external bodies through interviews, workshops and online surveys. The staff survey ran until 19 March 2015 and all comments and feedback were taken into consideration when drawing up the new plan.
We appointed an independent consultant, Ranmore, to provide advice and support and also worked very closely with the Students’ Union in order to gain student insight, and ensure that student requirements were at the very heart of our new strategy. Workshops were held with with the SU Executive Officers and with a broader group of students. The Student Union also agreed to add some relevant questions to their regular Student Voice survey which was distributed around Easter 2015.
The Conversation also included regular updates so staff were fully appraised on how the plan was developing.
Task and finish groups
At the same time, the University Leadership Team (ULT) formed several task and finish groups to look at various key work streams across the institution.
These groups are generally led by members of ULT and supported by a related professional services lead. The work of these groups was also integrated into the Strategic Conversation and will continue to inform, guide and shape the implementation of the plan.
