Mehmooda graduated from Cambridge 1989 and began life as a teacher before re-training and qualifying as a solicitor in 1994. Having trained in London she specialised as a Clinical Negligence Lawyer. She spent much of the first 10 years of her legal career in London representing the NHS and working for three leading defendant firms; Hempsons, Capsticks and Browne Jacobson. She also worked in house at the MDU as was Head of Legal Services at an NHS Trust in the East Midlands before setting up a niche law firm in Leicester in 2003, representing claimants who had suffered harm as a result of clinical negligence. She is currently Managing Director of Moosa-Duke Solicitors.
In 2015 she became the first female Asian President in Leicestershire Law Society's 155 year history, and only the seventh woman to hold the position.
Mehmooda enjoys walking, cooking and reading in her spare time.
