Bridget Towle joined Council in 2000. After graduating from Exeter in Economics, Law and Politics she taught with VSO in Uganda. On returning home she joined a knitted garment manufacturing plc having studied textile technology and later management at Leicester Polytechnic. She became the firm's marketing director and then joint managing director. Later she was elected Chief Guide and Chair of the Board of Girlguiding UK for a period of five years.
At present she is a trustee of the RAF Benevolent Fund and also of the College of Optometrists as well as being Vice President of Girlguiding UK.
She was awarded the CBE in 2001 and holds honorary doctorates from the Universities of Exeter and Loughborough.
Bridget served as the University's Treasurer between 2009 and 2013. She was appointed Chair of Council, in succession to Mr Roger Bettles, effective from 1 August 2013.
