Physic Skills and Professional Development 1

Module code: PA1010

This module is all about enhancing the core skills necessary for any physicist. By engaging in small group tutorials with members of academic staff you will start to sharpen your problem solving, written and oral communication skills and gain confidence in the transferable skills that you can bring forward to your future careers.  You will take part in classes covering topics such as study skills, and revision and exam technique. You will have the opportunity to give feedback on the degree programme.

During integrated career development sessions you will have the chance to take part in activities designed to improve your employability, including a CV writing workshop, and a mock assessment centre. You will have the opportunity to attend the Festival of Careers and take part in the Physics at Work careers day, giving you the opportunity to meet and network with recent graduates. By reflecting upon your personal and professional development and planning toward your future career you will devise strategies to maximise your physics and transferable skills expertise in appropriate areas. Upon successful completion of the careers programme you will receive the Leicester Award level 1 and level 2. The Leicester Award is a good edition for your CV and will make you eligible for the optional Leicester Award Gold programme in which you will have the opportunity to work directly with some of the University’s partners from industry.
