Protein Control in Cellular Regulation

Module code: BS2093

The module will consist of lectures and laboratory classes that mesh together to provide a detailed understanding of how cells generate and use energy. This module illustrates the molecular properties of proteins involved in energy transduction and considers enzyme properties and regulations with an emphasis on the role of protein activity on energy transduction.

Topics covered

  • Regulation and integration of metabolism
  • Oxidative phosphorylation and ATP synthesis
  • Properties of enzymes, enzyme kinetics and regulation
  • Energy use in motility and transport

Learning

  • 23 hours of lectures
  • 9 hours of practical classes and workshops
  • 6 hours of tutorials
  • 112 hours of guided independent study

Assessment

  • Exam, 2 hours (70%)
  • Computer modelling practical (10%)
  • Presentation (20%)
