Intended Learning Outcomes

By the end of this module, students should be able to:

  • Perform simultaneous interpreting on a range of semi-specialised topics into and out of English
  • Select and evaluate relevant background information as preparation for the interpreting assignment
  • Compile bilingual glossary as preparation for the interpreting assignment


This module will be taught in weekly workshops using the interpreting booths where applicable. It is designed to further enhance students simultaneous interpreting skills. They will receive formative feedback on their interpreting performances in the workshops. They will be encouraged to make use of the many resources available on the internet to practise between classes, and mock conferences will be arranged as part of the preparation for the assessment.


  • 20 hours of practical classes and workshops
  • 130 hours of guided independent study

Assessment Methods

  • Simultaneous interpreting task: language A to language B, 15 mins (50%)
  • Simultaneous interpreting task: language B to language A, 15 mins (50%)
