International Commercial Arbitration Moot 1 and 2

Module code: LW7257

Module co-ordinator: Dr Paolo Vargiu

Module Outline

This is a two part module. Module one provides an insight into the United Nations Convention on the International Sale of Goods (CISG) and the law and practice of international commercial arbitration. Students are required to work in groups to analyse a detailed case study provided by the Annual Willem C. Vis International Arbitration Moot and to discuss and formulate legal arguments on behalf of the commercial parties in the case study. Within teams, students are required to research the law and to draft submissions which are to be presented by some students at the Annual Moot in Vienna.

In Module two, students are given the opportunity and support to practice and improve their advocacy skills and to carry out any further research in strengthening their submissions in preparation for the moot. Students also engage in mock internal moots as well as participate in pre-moot competitions with students from other UK universities.
