Module code: GY3438
In the module Catchment Systems we considered how over a few hundreds to a few thousands of years rivers develop a variety of equilibrium (stable) channel forms that reflect the amount of water and sediment they receive from catchment hillslopes. In this module, we consider how rivers ‘work’ and evolve over shorter timescales of tens to hundreds of years. The module is structured around the form-process feedback loop shown below which illustrates the interactions between the flow, the bed and the movement of bed material that control the behaviour of rivers over these time scales.
