Geophysical Data Analysis

Modern science heavily relies on the quantitative analysis of large volumes of numerical data. In this module you will learn how to use a variety of computational methods to process and analyse geophysical data. We will discuss how these methods can be used to better understand the Earth and the geological processes that shape it. Furthermore, similar methods are used in fields as diverse as finance and weather prediction so the knowledge you gain in this module will be useful whatever career you will pursue in the future.

  • Principles of geophysical data analysis
  • Application of a variety of data analysis techniques to geophysical data; their advantages and limitations
  • Use of MATLAB or equivalent to perform typical data analysis tasks
