Environmental Geoscience

Human activity has had an unprecedented impact on the Earth. We have modified – and continue to modify – our planet. In this module we will explore the geoscientist's role in monitoring, measuring, and mitigating the effects of humans on the world.

We will discuss the environment in both natural and highly modified states, and consider important concepts in applied and academic environmental geoscience, including toxicology, epidemiology, source-pathway-receptor models, sustainability, and data analysis.

While this module focuses primarily on geological aspects of the environment, it also incorporates aspects of chemistry, biology, physics, medicine, geography, sociology, and economics. It provides an important foundation for many careers in applied geoscience.
