COVID-19 research application process flowchart

  1. Identification of COVID-19 research idea or collaboration opportunity
  2. Inform College Dean of Research and Director of Operations of planned activity. Notify RED research development team so we can collate research activities across the University towards the national COVID-19 effort.
  3. Will your research involve NHS staff, patients, premises, data and/or samples?

Yes

All COVID-19 research applications regardless of funder must be submitted to the NIHR Urgent Public Health Research application portal. This can be done in parallel to funding applications.

There is a small local COVID-19 review panel led by Nigel Brunskill that will review studies that are not prioritised by the national NIHR process, if local investigators still wish to proceed. However this is not a parallel process nor intended to bypass the NIHR process.

  1. NIHR approved (if NIHR not approved, contact Nigel Brunskill)
  2. COVID-19 review panel approved
  3. UOL Sponsorship processes apply (review completed and approved) but will be fast-tracked
  4. Standard grant sign off process for costing approval, HOD authorisation and grants team review of funding application

Normal NHS Ethics and local Trust processes apply but via the co-ordinated fast-track route
