Checklist

Visas

Be sure to research visa regulations. This handy tool on the UK Government's website allows you to check whether you need a visa based on your individual circumstances. You are also welcome to contact our team of visa advisers (visas@le.ac.uk) to ask for advice on which visa you should request.

If you require a student visa, you will receive an email inviting you to complete a short form in order to request a CAS number.

Accommodation

Accommodation is guaranteed to all students that apply before the deadline. If you're joining us for the Fall Semester or the full academic year, the deadline will be 1 September. For students joining us in the Spring Semester, the deadline is mid-December (the exact date will be communicated to you when you receive your study offer).

It is important that you pay the booking deposit and confirm the contract offer to secure a room. Make sure you read the accommodation contract carefully and email the accommodation office (accommodation@le.ac.uk) if any amendments are necessary.

Modules

Once you have been accepted onto the Study Abroad Programme, you will be asked to complete a module application form. If you are joining the programme in September, we will contact you about this in May, and if you are joining us in January, we will contact you in October. See more information about the modules available.

You will be able to view your full timetable after completing the on-campus registration. As part of the orientation programme, you will have the opportunity to meet with departments to confirm your module registration, and to adjust class lists if there are any clashes.

We recommend that you choose a few alternatives in case you are not accepted on your first choices.

Payment

If you choose to live in University of Leicester halls you will be required to pay a booking fee before you can accept your room offer.

If you wish to have essential items delivered to your room before you arrive, you may purchase bedding and/or kitchen packs from Shop@le.

We recommend that you purchase appropriate travel and health insurance in your home country before coming to the UK. You should obtain all visas and book accommodation before your arranging flights.

Plan your arrival

You are encouraged to take advantage of our free airport bus service. Dates and locations will be added over the summer.

Arrival

Moving into your accommodation

You will be able to move into University accommodation at the start of semester. Upon arrival in Leicester, you should go directly to your accommodation following the instructions given to you by Accommodation Services or your landlord.

Welcome week

Welcome week takes place during the first week of the academic year, and includes a range of activities and informative talks designed to support you during your orientation to the University.

There is also a Welcome Programme in early January for students starting in the second semester.

If you are starting in September and are interested in coming to Leicester earlier, why not attend the HeadStart+ Course? This is a two-week course aimed at improving your academic skills and introducing you to academic practice at Leicester. The course will also give you chance to meet new people from all over the world before the start of the academic year. The Study Skills course runs for 2 weeks, from early to late September. Please contact the Centre for International Training and Education for further information.
