Undergraduates
Funding and finances
All first-time students from the UK or EU are eligible for a Tuition Fee Loan from the Government which covers the cost of the Tuition Fee for each year of your course. This loan is repaid after you have finished your course. Full details on how this works can be found online on the Government's Student Finance website.
You may also be eligible for a Maintenance Loan to help cover your living costs. This loan is means tested and only available to UK students. The amount you get may vary depending on your household income and whether you are claiming financial support or benefits. You may also be eligible for a Special Support Grant, depending on your circumstances.
Scholarships
At the University of Leicester we have a range of scholarships that can help reduce the amount you pay or provide a lump sum to help with living or studying costs. Scholarships can vary on a yearly basis so do check the webpages for the most up to date information.
Many of the scholarships are assessed using your Student Finance application and are applied for automatically. However, some of the scholarships on offer, eg. for musical attainment or sports, need to be applied for separately.
Part-time work
The University of Leicester has an employment agency called Unitemps on campus that provides flexible working opportunities for students. Any student can sign up with Unitemps and become eligible to apply for a range of work across the campus from a few hours to a full day.
Other paid work includes the Student Ambassador scheme, Mature Student Ambassador Scheme, student bloggers and e-mentors who are all paid for work that fits around studying.
These opportunities are advertised on a regular basis throughout the year.
