Applying

All applications have to come through UCAS, the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service. The UCAS website has full information on the application process and application portal.

Timetable

At the start of September each year, UCAS begin accepting applications for entry to university in October of the next year. The normal closing date for applications to reach the UCAS office is mid-January (except for Medicine which has an earlier closing date of October). It is always best to check the exact dates online before applying.

We strongly recommend that you apply before the January deadline. Late applications - including those from outside the UK/EU - are accepted by UCAS and the University of Leicester throughout the remainder of the application year, but are considered at the University’s discretion.

You might begin your application process just after you begin your Access to HE course if you are completing one.

When you make your application, you will need the institution code for the University of Leicester which is LEICR L34.

  • If you are currently studying at a college, they will guide you through the application process.
  • If you are not currently at a college, you will need to apply online independently. You will be responsible for paying the correct UCAS application fee, for obtaining and attaching an academic reference and for submitting the completed application online to UCAS.

After we receive your application

We will make a decision on your application as quickly as possible. If you already have sufficient qualifications we will make you an unconditional offer. If you are currently studying for qualifications that relate to your applications, we may make you a conditional offer, which will be dependent on the grades you achieve.

Most of our courses do not normally interview applicants. If we do want to invite you to an interview, someone from the Department where you want to study (usually the Admissions Tutor) will contact you directly. If we make you an offer you will receive official notification through UCAS and an offer letter from the University.

The Admissions Tutor will also normally invite you to visit your Department. If you firmly accept our offer, we will send you further information during the spring of your admission year. If you meet the conditions of our offer and become ‘unconditional firm’ with us, you will be sent further details regarding registration and other matters.

Entry requirements

The University of Leicester requires you to have some sort of qualification at level 3 (sixth form level). This qualification could be A-levels, BTECs or other relevant courses. If you did not complete one of these qualifications we accept Access to Higher Education courses on many of our courses. The Access to Higher Education qualification is a one-year full-time course offered by many local further education colleges and prepares you for study at degree level.

Specific requirements for each course are detailed on the course pages. However it is usually worth contacting the Department where you wish to study as other qualifications or experience may be taken into account.
