Taking a partnership approach with key organisations in the region, we can be more effective in making a transformative impact in communities and on society. As an intellectual force and economic powerhouse, the University works alongside others, connecting and collaborating to deliver change.

Leicester City Council

We work with Leicester City Council for the benefit of the people of Leicester. Our wide range of collaborative activities have led to, for example, the creation of the National Space Centre and the discovery and reinterment of Richard III. We are currently working together to realise our ambition for Space Park Leicester, as well as improving graduate retention in the city.

Leicestershire County Council

We work proactively with Leicestershire County Council in diverse ways for the economic prosperity of the region. We collaborate, along with others, on the Enterprise Zones in the county and our joint working also includes programmes like the East Midlands Oral History Archive and initiatives for graduate retention in the region.

University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust

The University works in close partnership with Leicester's hospitals to deliver excellent clinical research that changes lives, and we provide world-class teaching to nurture and develop the next generation of doctors and other healthcare professionals.

Leicester and Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership

We work closely with a number of organisations helping to drive local economic growth. Our local economic impact will be boosted even further by the opening of Space Park Leicester. We also support the Leicester and Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership in the development of the two local enterprise zones and the Local Industrial Strategy.

Midlands Engine

We are part of the Midlands Engine - a coalition of councils, combined authorities, local enterprise partnerships (LEPs), universities and businesses across the region - which is actively working with Government to build a collective Midlands identity, to enable us to present the Midlands as a competitive and compelling offer that is attractive both at home and overseas.

Midlands Innovation

We are part of Midlands Innovation, a world-class university research and innovation partnership pooling the collective excellence of universities in the Midlands to power growth across the region.

Midlands Health Innovation

Midlands Health Innovation (MHI) is a world-class research and innovation partnership, combining the medical strengths of seven research-intensive universities, including Leicester, based in the Midlands. The partnership unites university research with the unique strengths of Midlands industry, within a joint academic-NHS innovation environment, to drive cutting-edge research, collaboration and skills development.

Energy Research Accelerator

We are a key member of the Energy Research Accelerator, funded by Innovate UK, which draws on the expertise and world-class facilities of many of the Midlands Innovation group of universities - Aston, Birmingham, Leicester, Loughborough, Nottingham and Warwick, plus the British Geological Survey.

Leicester City Football Club

We are very proud of our close relationship with Leicester City Football Club and the benefits this brings to the wider community. The Club's late Chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha was an honorary graduate of the University. He and the Club pledged £1 million to the University, which is being used to transform the health of children in Leicestershire and includes the creation of the Leicester City Football Club Professorship in Child Health in our College of Life Sciences - the only such post ever to be funded through a football club.

National Space Centre

The National Space Centre was co-founded in the mid-1990s by Leicester City Council and the University of Leicester, which has more than 50 years’ experience in space research. It was the subject of a joint bid to the Millennium Commission, which agreed to back the project as its Landmark Millennium Project for the East Midlands region in the summer of 1997.

The visitor attraction is an educational facility dedicated to the subject of space science which since opening in 2001 has welcomed over 4 million visitors.

The University continues to work with the National Space Centre, supporting Undergraduate Science Communication placements, exhibition development, guest speakers for public and schools events and leadership through the National Space Academy’s steering panel.
